Hello 2011 first-year science student!
![]() |
| The Faculty of Science's Peer Parnership program pairs first-year students with upper-year students. |
The switch to a university setting is one that many students find challenging — both academically and socially. The solution? join the Peer Partnership Program! Our program is simple — all incoming science students can choose to be matched with a Peer Mentor who is available to answer any questions you might have on a wide range of topics. Types of questions that are often asked usually relate to life at university (whether in residence or not), course selection and professors, choice of your major (including if you would like to look into a minor or an honours), extracurricular societies and activities, and campus sports.
All our Peer Mentors are in their upper years of science degrees, so they know what they're talking about. As soon as possible, you should get in the habit of checking your Dal email regularly, as you will receive important notices there.
I want to emphasize that Peer Mentors are not tutors — this is not a program for getting extra help with classwork, but rather for meeting other friendly students who have been through similar experiences. As such, I firmly believe that everyone can benefit from our program.
If you're interested in being matched with a mentor (and you should be!), follow this link to the Peer Partnership Program website which includes an application form. You will have the chance to meet your mentor in late September at our kick-off event. Throughout the year, we will hold some fun events for all science students in the Peer Partnership Program (like movie nights, trivia nights, and much more). Our program will come to a close at the end of March 2013. The end of the program doesn't have to mean the end of your relationship with your mentor though!
