Dalhousie science professors are very active in research, with average research grant levels among the highest in Canada. The university was recently named the best non-commercial scientific institute in which to work in Canada by The Scientist, a prestigious American-based science magazine.
Under Dalhousie's Strategic Research Plan, ocean studies, health studies, materials research, energy and environmental studies have been identified as major areas of strength for the university. All these areas of study involve professors from the Faculty of Science.
Dalhousie scientists are advancing knowledge in their various fields. Recently, a survey of citations of publications in 21 different disciplines ranked Dalhousie ninth among universities across Canada. Dalhousie scholars in materials research and psychology ranked first in their respective fields.
